What Is the Skills In Action Program All About?
Skills in Action is a new opportunity available exclusively to current Social Thrive students!
The program is separate from Social Thrive classes and gives students the opportunity to take the skills they’re building in class and put them into action through a fun, structured, hands-on work experience while making a positive impact in the community.
Participants will practice fundamental work skills such as punching in and out, stocking and organizing supplies, following a shared task list, working as a team, completing assigned responsibilities, and following a work routine.
Most importantly, students can take the creative skills they already practice and enjoy in class and apply them in a structured work setting with real responsibilities and a meaningful purpose. Students will also be able to use Social Thrive as a reference after their 6th month of participation.
Build skills. Work together. Make an impact.

Encouragement
Crafts
Students will work together to create, organize, and assemble Crafts of Encouragement baskets filled with handmade items such as mosaic coasters, positivity rocks, bracelets, bookmarks, decorated picture frames, and other encouraging crafts.
These creations will support three local organizations:
-
St. John’s Senior Living — crafts will be used as Bingo prizes and birthday gifts for residents.
-
Adaptt Rochester — baskets will be personalized for expectant mothers as they prepare to welcome their babies.
-
Villa of Hope — crafts will provide encouragement to individuals and families receiving supportive services.
